HR Functions

Complying with norms, recruiting, training, fostering culture.

HR is the last frontier resisting globalization. In contrast to technology and money matters, HR has to do with language, culture, tradition, religion, and core values, as well as with local norms and regulations. HR staff working in Mexican operations is by far not certified in their practice as it is required in other areas like quality, engineering, finance, and inventory control. They end up in HR after years of work in activities from other disciplines.

Corporate HR staff for the most part is not involved, nor do they travel to Mexican operations, or bear an impact on local issues. HR typically takes a back seat to the rest of business activities and budget. Yet in HR issues, many pitfalls occur. Like excessive dependency on bilinguals, poor compliance with norms and regulations which cause legal sues, poor or late recruitment, and high turnover levels. We can help here, for many of us have been building intercultural bridges in our careers.

We are members of the Society of Human Resources Management ( SHRM) and abide by its code of ethics and recommended practices to develop an efficient organization in Mexico. Several of our team members either coach expatriates or corporate HR staff in what should be the most adequate HR practices in Mexico.

We develop in-house tailored screening tests specific to the transference of

knowledge required by our clients. We advise on seeding a fair and productive culture that fosters loyalty. We provide updated bilingual copies of applicable statutory norms and regulations our client’s operations must abide by, including the training of local employees. In Mexico, it is the obligation of employers to teach and train employees in following the updated norms frequently issued by the government.

We advise against matching salaries and benefits implemented by companies that have been decades in Mexico. Since these companies established their practices following laws that obeyed past scenarios not imposed on new operations, and now it would be unpopular to reverse them. We help you develop an adequate payroll strategy.
